FAQ's and Boarding Resources

How often is your facility cleaned?

We don’t believe our guests can be safe and comfortable in a dirty facility. So the entire facility is cleaned and sanitized at least once a day. However the facility is inspected throughout the day and cleaned whenever it is soiled.

2. Where do you take the dogs during walks?

For the safety and comfort of our guests, all activities take place inside the Hotel. We have two Relief Porch Pottys  that they can access 24 hours per day.

3. Do the dogs go on any walks at all?
Absolutely. The indoor group walks are designed to let the dogs stretch their legs while helping them get comfortable to relieve themselves at one of the indoor Porch Pottys.  If a Pet Parent is uncomfortable with our indoor relief stations, we can schedule 3 daily outdoor relief walks.

4. Why doesn’t Hotel Poochie have an outside area for pets?

Our primary responsibility is the safety and comfort of your pet when he/she is in our care. Most hazards occur outdoors - extreme heat or cold, insect bites, other unsupervised dogs, foxes, vermin, reptiles, mean people and traffic. Hotel Poochie is designed to ensure that your pet is not exposed to these hazards and at the same time, provide a bright, clean home while you are away.  If a Pet Parent is uncomfortable with our indoor relief stations, we can schedule 3 daily outdoor relief walks.

5. My dog won’t relieve itself indoors. Won’t they be uncomfortable if they can’t go outside?

Hotel Poochie has two Relief Porch Pottys. This makes it easy for pet guests to relieve themselves in unfamiliar surroundings. Our experience is that even the most well trained dogs will go to the bathroom in the hotel when induced by a walk and all the scents of the other pet guests in the hotel. Although the Porch Pottys are cleaned, they are designed to retain their scent that encourages doggies to go potty.

6. Will my dog come home and start going to the bathroom inside the house?

Your dog will not be enticed to go to the bathroom indoors when he/she comes back home. Your dog has already marked his/her area outside of your home and will not change from this area when he/she returns home.

7. Can I call in to check on my pet?

We encourage you to call to check on your pet during Lobby hours, 9am till 5pm 7 days per week.

8. If my pets has a medical emergency does the hotel have access to an emergency vet?

Your pet’s health and safety are of highest importance to us and we have established procedures to ensure that we are ready if a pet experiences a health situation while in our care. Should your pet need veterinary care, we take your pet to your listed Veterinarian. For after hours, we would take your pet to an emergency veterinary facility such as Memphis Veterinart Specialists or PetMed Emergency center only 12 minutes from our hotel.

9. Can I visit my pet during his/her stay?

Pet Parents and those authorized by the pet parents may visit their pets.

10. Besides when I vacation, what are some other occasions when I could use Hotel Poochie?

There are lots of times when we can help. Here are a few suggestions (but, we know after you try us, you’ll think of more occasions to come visit):

  • Business travel
  • Holidays, birthday parties, other special events when you don’t want to worry about your four-legged friend getting in the snack bowl!
  • Allergic house guests
  • Work done to the house (ie., carpets or pool being cleaned, sprayed for bugs)
  • Showing the house for sale/moving
  • A new baby in the house; your pet (and YOU) need time to adjust
  • A new puppy that needs interaction with other dogs
  • An older dog or "only child" that could benefit from some extra play and exercise.

11. What is Hotel Poochie?

We are a hotel that’s just for dogs. Hotel Poochie provides superior day and overnight care and personalized attention for all pet guests in a safe, comfortable, fun environment. It also provides a great alternative to the chain-link fence facilities that are normally associated with dog boarding kennels, giving pet parents peace of mind that their pets are safe and happy while in our care.

12. How is Hotel Poochie different from the boarding kennel I use now for my pet?

  • Our caregivers, hand-picked for their love of pets, are always here with your pet - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in our facility
  • Hotel Poochie is totally enclosed and completely air conditioned and heated.
  • Hotel Poochie has no kennels or cages.

13. Since you are cagefree, what keeps visitors from accidentally letting my dog out the door? I do NOT want strangers touching my baby.

Visitors and Pet Parents are required to call before arrival or stand outside our front door until we scurry any guests from the lobby to the back of the facility.  We have "Dog Catchers" at every door except our emergency door which remains locked. And of course, NO MATTER HOW NICELY ANYONE ASKS, no one, not even pet parents, are allowed in the back of the facility where our guests are relaxing and roaming freely. Please do NOT be offended when we have to tell you that you can only view the back half of our facility from our webcam screen. This is for your baby's security.

14. What should I expect when I take my Pet home?

  • Give your dog a chance to relieve himself outside before getting into your vehicle for the ride home.

Food & Water:
It is best to wait at least 30 minutes after returning home to offer your dog water. This will help prevent any vomiting that may occur from the car ride or from the excitement of being home. When offering water, offer only small amounts at first or if your pet eats ice cubes, try those. Drinking large amounts of water quickly can cause dogs to vomit. Wait at least four hours after returning home to offer your dog food. This will give him time to settle in and calm down. After four hours or at your pets next regular meal time (if after 4 hours), start by offering small amounts of food.

  • It is not uncommon for dogs to have loose stool upon returning home. If your dog has diarrhea, offering bland foods like boiled chicken and rice may help. Withholding food for 12-24 hours to give his system a chance to rest may also help. If your pet is vomiting, not eating, or the diarrhea is not improving, Call your veterinarian to discuss treatment options.

    * If your dog vomits immediately upon getting home, it is possible that it is from the car ride or excitement. Allow your pet to rest and try to minimize excitement. If the vomiting continues, contact your veterinarian.

Sleep:
After the excitement of being away, it’s normal for your dog to sleep more than usual for the first few days after returning home.
